Parks, wetlands and museums with their own pages

The delta's national parks, its Ramsar wetlands and the museums and relic sites that publish an official page. For each one we give the province it is in after 2025, the link we opened and what that page is good for.

National parks and Ramsar wetlands

The five delta provinces hold five national parks. Four are wetlands: two in the melaleuca and peat forests of the U Minh region, one in the Plain of Reeds and one in the mangroves of the southern cape; three of these carry Ramsar listing. The fifth, on Phu Quoc, protects island forest and now falls inside An Giang because Phu Quoc is a special zone of that province. Where a park has no website of its own, we link to its page on the provincial tourism portal.

Lang Sen wetland reserve, another Ramsar site (2015) often grouped with the delta, lies in the former Long An province, which is now part of Tay Ninh; it is outside the five provinces this directory covers.

Visiting the wetland parks

The four wetland parks are easiest to understand by boat, and none of them is a place to arrive unannounced in the afternoon expecting a full visit. At Tram Chim the provincial portal lists opening hours of 07:00–18:00, while a January 2026 travel guide says boats are the only way into the interior. U Minh Thuong closed its forest to visitors for fire prevention in the 2025 dry season and reopened on 26 May 2025, according to VietnamPlus. Check before you travel in the driest months.

Wildlife is seasonal. By June 2026 twelve sarus cranes had been brought to Tram Chim from Thailand under a reintroduction programme; cranes in the wild, where present, are more likely seen between January and May; the flood season from September to December brings the water landscape most visitors picture.

Relic sites and museums

Museums in the delta are mostly provincial, small and Vietnamese-language. The most useful official pages are those on the provincial tourism portals, which give the official name and address.

Oc Eo – Ba The and the World Heritage list

The Funan-era site at Oc Eo and Ba The mountain covers over 453 ha in 16 component sites. Vietnam sent its World Heritage dossier to UNESCO on 29 January 2026; ICOMOS evaluators visited from 17 to 24 August 2026, and the decision is expected at the World Heritage Committee's 49th session in mid-2027. Until then, the press report above is the most current public source; the national heritage department at dsvh.gov.vn is where official updates should appear.

Heritage listings that are not places

Two UNESCO listings in the delta are practices, not sites: the Ba Chua Xu festival at Sam Mountain (2024) and don ca tai tu music (2013). Both have UNESCO pages, linked from the festivals page. The Sa Dec flower-growing craft was recognised as national intangible heritage at the December 2025 festival.

When a park or museum page will not help

Official pages rarely state current prices, and when they do, the figure may be out of date: for Tram Chim, the portal's "free" and a 2026 guide's VND 20,000 entry fee cannot both be right. Museum opening hours are often missing altogether. Treat these pages as proof of what a place is and where it is, not of what it costs today.

For a park visit, the boat operator at the gate or a tour company that runs the trip is usually the source of current conditions. Ask about water levels in the flood season and fire closures in the dry season before you set off.

Common questions

Questions readers send

How many national parks are in the Mekong Delta?

Five in the five delta provinces: Tram Chim (Dong Thap), U Minh Thuong and Phu Quoc (both An Giang), and U Minh Ha and Mui Ca Mau (both Ca Mau). All but Phu Quoc are wetland parks.

Which Mekong Delta parks are Ramsar sites?

Tram Chim (2012), U Minh Thuong and Mui Ca Mau; sources differ on the year for the last two. Lang Sen, in the former Long An province (now Tay Ninh), is also a Ramsar site.

Is there a museum about the Oc Eo culture?

The Oc Eo – Ba The site in An Giang is a special national relic and a World Heritage candidate. We did not find a separate visitor website for it on 12 October 2026.
